Joseph T. Potterton has been the Operations Manager responsible for the training and education of 140 Security Officers and thousands of health care professionals employed at a large inner-city hospital in Philadelphia since 1992. He has over 25 years of experience in the areas of physical security, access control, training, policy development, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) environment of care requirements.
Mr. Potterton is a Certified Instructor in OCAT(R) (Pepper Spray), Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (PATH™), Personal Protection Consultant’s Expandable Baton Program, Active Shooter Response, Crisis Prevention Institute, Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), Handle with Care, Verbal Defense & Influence, Point of Impact Crisis Intervention, and Defensive Tactics. He is also a Certified Trainer for the American Heart Association in the discipline of Basic Life Support (CPR/AED).
His affiliations include the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), the International Association for Health care Security and Safety (IAHSS), the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA), the American Heart Association, and serving as a national advisor for the Vistelar Group (a global conflict prevention and management solutions provider).
Joe is an avid sailor and has sailed most of his life on everything from a sunfish to a Morgan 45 for offshore racing. His other vice is fitness. He was the 1991 Mr. Philadelphia bodybuilding champion and continues to train and mentor young athletes.
