Howard P. Medoff, Ph.D., P.E. has a Bachelor and Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with over twenty-eight years of study and research in the field of biomechanics. He is a tenured (1998) Associate Professor of Engineering in the College of Engineering at Penn State University, and has worked at Penn State University since 1990. Dr. Medoff was licensed as a Professional Engineer in 1975.
Dr. Medoff has worked as a forensic biomechanical engineer for more than twenty years and has qualified and testified as a biomechanical engineer in various Courts including those in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, State of New Jersey and Federal Districts Courts. He is the Chair of the Biomechanics Subcommittee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASTM) Committee F-13 Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear, having previously served as Vice Chair. Dr. Medoff has authored many scientific publications and articles.
As an Associate Professor at Penn State University, Dr. Medoff teaches Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Failure Analysis, and Biomechanics. These courses directly relate to the structural strength of the human musculoskeletal system and the response/reaction of the human body to the application of externally applied forces in event and incident reconstruction.
At Consulting Engineers & Scientists, Inc., Dr. Medoff’s responsibilities include biomechanical evaluations of incidents involving physical forces and the potential for injury including low and higher speed automobile accidents, industrial and construction accidents, sports and amusement events as well as pedestrian slip/trip/fall accidents. Dr. Medoff has many years of forensic engineering experience in mechanical product failure analysis and product safety inspections with regards to ergonomics and human factors issues including warnings. Dr. Medoff is a member of ASTM, ASME, and ASM.
